How to Apply

A professional look starts with a professional process. Follow these steps to ensure your numbers stay secure at triple-digit speeds and look sharp in every track photo.

Step 1: Prep the Surface

Clean the application area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe. We do not recommend using products like RainX since they are formulated to leave a film behind on the glass or paint.

Step 2: Position Your Decal

Use a piece of painter’s tape to create a "hinge" along the left edge of the decal. Step back and check your alignment. Once you peel the backing, you’re committed, so take the extra 30 seconds to make sure your numbers are level with the ground or the desired body lines.

Step 3: Squeegee the Decal

Using a squeegee or credit card, start from the edge of the decal where you taped it down and work your way out toward the far edge using firm, overlapping strokes. This pushes the air out and ensures a bond with the surface. Squeegee until the entire decal is adhered to the car surface.

Step 4: Remove the Transfer Paper

Slowly peel back the transfer tape back at a sharp 180° angle (flat against itself), rather than pulling up and away. If a corner of the vinyl starts to lift, stop, lay it back down, and give it another firm pass with the squeegee before trying again.

Tips:

  • If you have a special surface that is harder for the vinyl to adhere to, leave the vinyl on the surface with the transfer paper still on it for a couple hours in the sun. It should feel warm to the touch, and this gives the adhesion extra time to bond with the surface. We’ve found this previously necessary with tinted or lightweight glass.
  • To make sure the vinyl is extra long lasting, give the vinyl 24 hours to "set" before allowing water to hit it.
  • When it’s time to remove the numbers, a little bit of heat (a hair dryer or the afternoon sun) makes the vinyl peel off even easier.
